Visitor numbers up 15% in June

There were 682,200 overseas trips to Ireland in June 2005 compared with 626,200 in June 2004, an annual increase of 56,000.

Between January and June of this year, there were 3,095,000 overseas trips to Ireland, an increase of 121,000 on the first six months of 2004.

The number of trips to Ireland by residents of Britain in the first six months of 2005 was 2% higher than in the same period of 2004 while the number of trips to Ireland by residents of other European countries grew by 19%.

The number of trips to Ireland by residents of North America and other areas in the first six months of 2005 fell by 5% and 13% respectively when compared with the same period of 2004.

In June 2005 there were 612,900 overseas trips by Irish residents, compared with 550,800 in June 2004. Between January and June this year, there were 2,834,100 trips overseas by Irish Residents, an increase of 359,400 on the January to June 2004 total of 2,474,700.
