Oaks winner Eswarah retired

31/08/2005 - 17:02:31
Eswarah, winner of this year’s Vodafone Oaks, has been retired after chipping a bone in her knee.

The Michael Jarvis-trained filly was last seen in action when finishing a disappointing fourth behind Punctilious in the Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor meeting.

Subsequent X-rays revealed a small chip in a knee, forcing owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum to retire the daughter of Unfuwain to stud.

Angus Gold, the owner’s racing manager, said: “Eswarah was a very high class filly, winning three of five starts and she was blessed with a great turn of foot for a middle-distance filly.

“I would just like to pay tribute to Michael Jarvis and his team who did such a wonderful job with the filly and also to thank Ben Hanbury and his staff who looked after her so well as a two-year-old.”
