31/08/2005 - 15:26:04
A 30 year-old Polish woman charged with ill-treating her daughter, who died from head injuries, has been further remanded in custody.

Monika Paczkowska, a member of the Roma community, was appearing today at Limerick District Court.

She is charged with wilfully ill-treating and causing unecessary suffering and injury to her three-year-old daughter at her home in Tralee on dates between August 2 and 3 last.

The child died at Kerry County Hospital earlier this month after sustaining serious head injuries.

The mother of five, who was dressed entirely in black, did not speak during today's brief court sitting at Limerick District Court. Judge Leo Malone consented to a garda application to remand the accused in continuing custody to appear before Tralee District Court on Wednesday next, September 7.

He also directed that a Polish interpreter, who was present today at Limerick District Court, should also appear for the next court sitting in Tralee.
