More than €68m spent cleaning Irish hospitals last year
31/08/2005 - 07:57:38More than €68m was reportedly spent on cleaning Ireland's main public hospitals last year, up by almost €6m on the figure for 2003.
Reports this morning said documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act showed the money was spent in the five main Dublin hospitals and more than 30 former health board hospitals.
Patients groups have expressed surprise at the amounts being spent and have claimed hospitals are still in a mess despite the huge outlay.
Earlier this year, Minister for Health Mary Harney also expressed concern about hygiene standards in Irish hospitals.
