IBEC wants laptops provided to all secondary school pupils
31/08/2005 - 08:51:37The employers' body IBEC has called for the State to make laptop computers available to every secondary school pupil in Ireland within the next five years.
The organisation has claimed Ireland is lagging behind most other countries when it comes to IT facilities in schools and the gap is actually widening.
Spokesman Brendan Butler said making laptops available to all pupils would be a sensible move as young people are already very computer literate.
He said it would also eliminate the need for school books and school bags.
