Carabinieri nab mobster at christening party
22/08/2005 - 10:07:02Authorities in the southern tip of Italy arrested a feared fugitive mobster as he was attending a dinner to celebrate the baptism of a friend’s son.
Carabinieri paramilitary police said they had apprehended Rocco Facchineri, 46, at the dinner late yesterday.
They said Facchineri was included on a list of Italy’s 500 most dangerous fugitives, with past convictions for kidnapping and possession of arms. He had evaded authorities after being granted a temporary spell out of prison in 1989 for good behaviour.
Facchineri’s family is part of a powerful clan belonging to a crime syndicate that operates in Calabria, in the south-western “toe” of the country, the Carabinieri said.
