Vegas team still targeting Leger
22/08/2005 - 14:41:29Mr Vegas is still on course for next month’s Ladbrokes St Leger despite finishing a tailed-off last at Deauville yesterday.
Peter Chapple-Hyam’s hope for the final Classic of the season took on older horses in the Group Two Prix Kergorlay, won by Alcazar, and disputed the lead until weakening rapidly from three furlongs out on the soft ground.
“He seems okay. There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with him. He’s on his way back home and we’ll have a look at him when he returns,” said Chapple-Hyam.
“He can throw in a bad one in but the ground was against him yesterday. It’s back to the drawing board but the St Leger is still the aim.”
Mr Vegas is 33-1 with William Hill for the Doncaster showpiece on September 10 after being 20-1 with Ladbrokes before his poor run on Sunday.
