Ljungberg escapes serious injury
Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has escaped serious injury despite limping away from Stamford Bridge on crutches as a precaution.
Ljungberg injured his knee after colliding into advertising hoardings and was substituted midway through the first half in the 1-0 defeat against Chelsea yesterday.
Although an initial X-ray was clear, there were still fears of a hairline fracture or further damage which could have led to an absence of several weeks.
However, the club’s website, www.arsenal.com, reported: “Scans on Freddie Ljungberg’s knee have revealed just bruising.
“He left Stamford Bridge on crutches but the damage has not turned out to be as bad as it first appeared.”
Ljungberg is still expected to miss Wednesday’s home game against Fulham, with Jose Antonio Reyes, Robin van Persie or Dennis Bergkamp poised to replace him in the starting line-up.
