Blades land Unsworth
Sheffield United have signed defender David Unsworth from Portsmouth on a three-year deal.
The 31-year-old will add experience to Neil Warnock’s back line and has joined for an undisclosed fee.
Capped once by England 10 years ago, Unsworth failed to establish himself at Portsmouth last season after joining from Everton and had a loan spell with Ipswich in the Championship.
“I’m delighted to have someone like David as part of my squad,” Warnock told the club website, www.sufc.co.uk.
“His experience will be invaluable to the squad, as will the fact that he can play in a number of positions.
“He had options to join other clubs but he has seen the start we have made and wants to go straight back to the Premiership with us.”
Unsworth, who also had a playing spell with West Ham earlier in his career, is eager to make an impression with the Blades, who stand second in the Championship after four rounds of games.
“The move has been on the cards for a while and it was just a matter of sorting out the details,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
