Greens want Govt guarantee of schoolbus places
The Green Party has called on the Government to guarantee all children who need a place on schoolbuses will have one when the new term begins next month.
There are fears thousands of children will lose their seats as a result of the Department of Education's move to end the "three-for-two" seating policy on schoolbuses.
These students do not qualify for seats because they are outside the catchment area or because they live too close to their schools.
Green Party TD Paul Gogarty said Education Minister Mary Hanafin had a duty to ensure these children would not lose out as a result of her policy changes.
"The Minister needs to act to guarantee that the kids who were going to school last year under the concessionary scheme are guaranteed a place in a schoolbus," said Deputy Gogarty.
