Andy Cole opened his Manchester City account with the winner against Birmingham at St Andrews.
Nicky Butt scored an early opener for the hosts, before City midfielder Joey Barton levelled after 20 minutes.
Cole, 33, stole in at the far post two minutes into the second half, firing a low shot across Maik Taylor.
