25 dead, 51 hurt in three Iraq car bombs

17/08/2005 - 07:10:02
Three car bomb attacks in central Baghdad killed 25 people today and wounded another 51, police said.

A suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle outside the al-Nahda bus station in central Baghdad, Police Capt. Nabil Abdul-Qader said, and a second car loaded with explosives exploded inside the station parking lot. Police initially said two suicide bombers had attacked the station.

A second suicide bomber exploded his vehicle near the al-Kindi Hospital as the wounded were arriving for treatment.

At least a dozen vehicles, including three police cars, were destroyed in the attacks at the al-Nahda station, a transit point for travellers heading to the southern provinces of the country. It was unclear if police or the station was targeted in the initial blasts.
