Govt withdraws Aran Islands contract from Galway firm
17/08/2005 - 11:50:52The Government has withdrawn a lucrative contract it awarded to a Co Galway company earlier this year for the provision of cargo shipping services to the Aran Islands.
The Government granted the €1.8m two-year contract to Lasta Mara in January due to dissatisfaction with the previous provider of the services, O'Brien Shipping.
However, Lasta Mara has now had the contract withdrawn by the Department for Gaeltacht Affairs, which said the company had failed to provide a new cargo boat as promised.
