Ellington completes Baggies switch
15/08/2005 - 12:47:47West Brom have completed the signing of striker Nathan Ellington from Wigan on a four-year deal.
The 24-year-old is thought to have cost £3m (€4.4m) after Albion activated a release clause in the player’s contract allowing them to speak to him.
Ellington was a key contributor to Wigan’s promotion to the Premiership last season and scored 59 goals in 134 league games.
Ellington passed a medical on Friday and is now eligible for the home Premiership clash with Portsmouth on August 20.
The player will wear the number 22 shirt for the Baggies, against whom he scored a hat-trick in October 2002 to knock them out of the League Cup.
Ellington made his professional debut for Bristol Rovers and joined big-spending Wigan for a then club-record fee of £1.2m (€1.8m) in March 2002.
