Omagh marks seventh anniversary of Real IRA bombing

15/08/2005 - 08:08:45
The Co Tyrone town of Omagh is today marking the seventh anniversary of the Real IRA bomb attack that killed 29 people and unborn twins on August 15, 1998.

Yesterday, the families of the victims held a commemoration service in the Remembrance Garden constructed in the wake of the bombing.

The service was attended by British Minister Lord Rooker and Ireland's Minister for Education Mary Hanafin.

Nobody has been convicted of direct involvement in the 1998 attack, but a 35-year-old man has been charged with the 19 murders and is awaiting trial.

The relatives of the victims are also taking a civil case against five republicans they accuse of orchestrating the bombing.
