Leaving Cert students losing out in medical points race
15/08/2005 - 08:10:01First-time Leaving Cert students are reportedly losing out in the battle for limited places on university courses for subjects like medicine and dentistry in Ireland.
Reports this morning said figures from the Central Applications Office showed that 40% of places on these courses were being taken by repeat students and students from Britain and the North.
More than 560 points were needed to secure places on these courses last year and just 4% of the 12,000 applicants were successful.
