Court figures show drop in murder case conviction rate
15/08/2005 - 08:10:28The conviction rate in murder cases was down last year, according to figures published by the Courts Service.
In its annual report for last year, the service said the Central Criminal Court dealt with the same number of murder cases in 2004 as it did in 2003.
However, the number of convictions secured was down from 28 to 23.
Two people were found not guilty on the grounds of insanity, while seven people were cleared of the charge of murder.
