IFA mounts protest outside Kildare meat factory
10/08/2005 - 12:14:56The Irish Farmers Association has mounted a protest outside a meat factory in Co Kildare that it claims is putting beef producers out of business.
The association said the factory in Naas was importing beef from Brazil at rates that left Irish farmers unable to make a profit.
It said it was planning to also mount protests at other meat factories over the coming months as they had cut cattle prices by around €150 per head since June, leaving 50,000 beef farmers in a loss-making situation.
