Alonso upbeat about Turkey chances

02/08/2005 - 12:17:12
World championship leader Fernando Alonso is confident of returning to winning form in the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix in three weeks’ time.

The Spaniard, who leads the championship by 26 points, endured a rare failure in Hungary last Sunday, finishing 11th after an early collision with Ralf Schumacher.

The race was won by his closest title challenger Kimi Raikkonen but Renault driver Alonso insists he is not feeling any extra pressure.

Alonso told the team’s official website, www.renaultf1.com: “It was just one weekend without any points, that’s all.

“We are still leading both championships and we have developments on the way. I am still really motivated, and the result doesn’t give me extra pressure. I’m already thinking about Istanbul.”

Alonso now plans to take a short break before beginning his preparations for Turkey.

He added: “I am going to relax a bit. We have had four races in five weekends this last month.

“I will also be doing some training for Turkey – I want to come back completely refreshed in three weeks’ time.”
