Bono backs reggae convict

Bono is giving a reformed criminal a boost as he plans a pop career after calling him "the most important Jamaican artist since (Bob) Marley".

Bono has become a huge fan of Abdel Wright after performing with him at a 2003 Aids benefit concert in South Africa and now he's helping him hit the charts.

The reggae singer, who spent five years in jail for firearms possession, spent most of his time in prison writing the songs he's now hoping to turn into hits.

His eponymous debut album has been produced by another superstar fan - Eurythmics' Dave Stewart.

Thrilled Wright says: "Bono and Dave have been great, They're behind me all the way."
