Great escape would leave Hoops heading east

29/07/2005 - 11:21:13
Celtic’s possible opponents in the final qualifying round of the Champions League will come from eastern Europe.

But following their 5-0 first leg thrashing by Artmedia Bratislava few are expecting them to be taking part in the next round.

Should a record-breaking turn-around occur, the Hoops will play either Serbian outfit Partisan Belgrade or Sherrif Tiraspol of Moldova.

Bank of Scotland Premier League champions Rangers are also heading east and will play in either Cyprus or Turkey.

They have been paired with the winners of the tie between Anorthosis Famagusta or Trabzonspor.

The Cypriots will take a 3-1 first leg lead to Turkey next week.
