Mortgage lending up by record €2.1bn

The Central Bank has reported "exceptionally strong" demand for residential mortgages during the month of June.

In its latest monthly bulletin, the bank said the value of such mortgages increased by a record €2.1bn in June.

The previous highest monthly increase was €1.7bn in July 2004.

The Central Bank said last month's increase meant total mortgage borrowings had risen by 26.6% in the 12 months up to June.
