IRA decommissioning ‘may be completed within weeks’
29/07/2005 - 08:16:37The IRA could reportedly complete the process of arms decommissioning within a matter of weeks following its historic decision to end armed activities.
The IRA announced yesterday that it had agreed to complete the process in the presence of two independent witnesses from the Protestant and Catholic churches.
Reports this morning said the IRA had recently moved its arms to a number of dumps in the Republic and the Irish Government was hoping they could all be destroyed before the end of August.
The reports said the first in a series of decommissioning acts could be announced within days.
