French delight as unemployment falls
29/07/2005 - 21:17:30France’s unemployment rate fell in June for the first time in more than four years as more young people found work, national statistics agency Insee said Friday.
In a boost for the French government, which has made tackling unemployment its top priority, Insee said the jobless rate slipped to 10.1% in June from 10.2 percent in May.
Economists had predicted it would stay unchanged at 10.2%, a five-year high, for the fourth straight month.
The jobless rate had risen steadily since March 2001, when it dropped to 8.6% from 8.7% the previous month.
