US woman jailed for severing ex's penis
A jury sentenced a woman to eight years in prison for severing her ex-boyfriend’s penis with a kitchen knife.
Delmy Ruiz, 49, had said she acted in self defence when she assaulted Rene Aramando Nunez while he was asleep at her home in October.
She testified in her trial in Houston, that Aramando, 35, had raped her and then demanded oral sex.
Prosecutors said the attack was the result of a jealous rage because Ruiz suspected Aramando was cheating on her.
Authorities did not find either the severed penis or the knife used in the attack.
The jury convicted her on Friday of aggravated assault and handed down its sentence, which included an €8,300 fine, after deliberating for several hours yesterday.
The Salvadoran immigrant faced up to 20 years in prison. She could be deported after serving her sentence.
