Mont Blanc avalanche kills climber

At least one person was killed today when an avalanche from one of Mont Blanc’s summits sent huge chunks of ice down a slope frequented by climbers, police said.

Three people were injured as a 400m (1,312ft) wide wall of moving ice smashed down a slope from the 4,248m (13,937ft) peak of Mont Blanc de Tucul, one of the tallest in the Mont Blanc range.

Mont Blanc, the highest peak in western Europe, is 4,810m (15,780ft) high.
