Albania steps up security measures after attacks
26/07/2005 - 10:24:47Albania has increased security at Mother Teresa International Airport and public institutions following terrorist attacks in Britain and Egypt, police said today.
Police have “undertaken many measures to strengthen the border crossing points by checking foreign citizens, especially those from Islamic countries”, a police statement said.
Security around government and other public buildings has also been increased.
Police have been checking all persons passing through the international airport for alleged suspects involved in terrorist acts and have also sent dogs to check for explosives.
Albania has 120 soldiers serving in Iraq. The predominantly Muslim country has been one of the most vocal backers of the US-led campaign in Iraq, and fears it could be targeted by terrorists.
