Schumey looks to the future with F1

26/07/2005 - 16:35:25
Michael Schumacher has set Ferrari a target of returning to the pinnacle of Formula One after writing off his world championship hopes this season.

The seven-time world champion revealed his fifth-place finish on home ground in Germany last weekend was a crushing disappointment in front of thousands of passionate fans.

Now he has urged Ferrari to forget their failings so far this year and concentrate on building a car capable of challenging for future titles.

Ferrari return to the Hungaroring this weekend one year on from sealing a record sixth consecutive constructors’ title in Hungary with Schumacher keen to see signs of recovery.

Speaking of his title chances this season, he said: “At the moment it is not the most important thing for us and I don’t think we should take it into consideration.

“We cannot hope to improve everything at once. Above all, we have to try to do the best with what we have.

“We have to go on working as we have been because losing our composure is pointless. We can
still improve and win races this year.”

Schumacher will be fired up by his home-turf disappointment in Germany last weekend. “It was incredible to see how the fans supported us during the weekend,” he added. “The atmosphere was unique, like a Serie A soccer crowd.

“In exchange, we had to try to give something back to our fans. To be honest, I would have liked to have given them even more. There was simply nothing else to be done. Now we have to get back to the top.”
