Levein expects Foxes to improve

26/07/2005 - 08:52:57
Manager Craig Levein believes his younger, fitter and better-organised Leicester side can go places next season.

The Walkers Stadium boss is fighting shy of the hype, but a return to the Barclays Premiership is City’s aim for 2005-06.

Appointed in October last year following predecessor Micky Adams’ decision to walk out on the club, Levein took the Foxes to a 15th-place finish last season which ended with the Midlanders stranded 16 points short of the play-off positions.

But after investing in six new players during the close season, and with Plymouth and Wales U21 defender Peter Gilbert set to sign imminently, Levein is confident his new-look outfit can reclaim the club’s top-flight status, which was surrendered in 2004.

The Walkers Stadium chief said: “I have got a better idea of what is going to be needed this season after having had those six or so months in charge last season.

“But it’s difficult to make predictions because teams have changed their players and new teams have come into the division as well. However, we expect to do better than last season, that’s for sure.”
