Chairman to be quizzed about controversial Aer Lingus memo
Aer Lingus chairman John Sharman is due face questions from the Oireachtas Transport Committee today about the company's attitude towards its workers.
Mr Sharman will be asked to explain a leaked memo which appeared to show that the airline considered a range of measures to make life more difficult for its staff.
The memo suggested the introduction of awkward shift-patterns, tacky uniforms and tedious training programmes in an effort to push almost 2,000 staff towards accepting voluntary redundancy.
A SIPTU delegation will also address today's meeting and, speaking beforehand, spokesman Michael Halpenny said he wanted the names of those behind the document exposed.
"We have been told that eight members of management were involved in this. Four of them have since left the company and if there's going to be full transparency and the full disclosure that this kind of scenario demands, well then I presume the names will come out," he said.
