Home holidaymakers focus on value, study shows
26/07/2005 - 15:43:07New research shows price is the main concern for Irish people planning to take a holiday break at home.
The study showed most people wait till the last minute before booking in the hope of getting a bargain. The research was carried out for Fáilte Ireland, the national tourism development body.
It revealed half of all Irish adults holiday abroad, with the same number taking a break in Ireland, indicating a growing number now take a break both overseas and at home.
Three quarters of people book just a month in advance in the hope of getting a bargain, and almost half book on the internet.
The domestic holiday market is now worth €1bn each year and the most popular destinations are the West, South West and South East.
