Virgo not overawed by Celtic switch
Adam Virgo admits swapping life at Brighton for Celtic will be a challenge but insists he will be able to cope with the transition following his £1.5m (€2.2m) move to Parkhead.
The 22-year-old penned a four-year deal last night and says he was blown away by his new surroundings when he visited Celtic Park for the first time after carving out a career in the more modest Withdean Stadium.
He is still describing the move to the Bank of Scotland Premier League club as “a dream come true” but claims he is more than ready for life in the goldfish bowl that inevitably comes with signing for one half of the Old Firm.
More importantly, he reckons new boss Gordon Strachan believes he is strong enough mentally, but Virgo insists he can also always turn to old boss Mark McGhee if he needs help.
He said: “It’s very different to what I’m used to. The Withdean is a 7,000-seater stadium with portacabins and an athletic track around it. To see Celtic Park is a dream come true.
“I don’t think Celtic would have signed me if Gordon didn’t think I had the mental strength to cope with the pressures of Celtic Football Club.
“It’s a great position for me to be in because you’ve got to win week in, week out and it’s going to be a new experience for me and one I’m very much looking forward to.”
