Union says push tactics already in use at Aer Lingus
Trade union group IMPACT has said Aer Lingus has already used tactics to try push workers out of the airline.
Aer Lingus today denied reports claiming the airline considered a range of measures designed to encourage staff to quit, including tacky uniforms, awkward shift patterns and tedious training programmes, to push employees towards taking voluntary redundancy.
But IMPACT, which represents Aer Lingus pilots and cabin crew, said the airline had actually employed similar practices to those described in the reports.
Spokesman Michael Landers said: "There were a number of tactics which the company employed, all of which I think were aimed at creating a climate of uncertainty and making people's lives more difficult.
"Certainly, we would be familiar with the tap-on-the-shoulder approach where people were encouraged to apply for what was supposedly a voluntary severance programme.
"I've spoken to many, many of our members who had that approach."
