DUP rejects jobs discrimination claim
20/07/2005 - 12:44:12The DUP has rejected claims of discrimination against Catholics in the North and claimed Protestants are actually being treated unfairly in recruitment to the civil and public service jobs.
Sinn Féin and the SDLP say Catholics continue to be discriminated against by the authorities. But the DUP insisted that they are complaining about something that doesn't exist.
It said today that official figures showed Protestants were not getting their fair share of jobs in the civil service, the Housing Executive, the Child Support Agency and the Royal Mail.
Sinn Féin and the SDLP, however, accused the party of being fixated with denying the past and said figures clearly showed that Catholic areas continued to suffer more deprivation than Protestant ones.
