Heartbroken Sienna pulls out of play
Actress Sienna Miller pulled out of her play last night as she faced up to the heartbreak of finding out fiance Jude Law had cheated on her.
On Monday night, a day after revelations of the affair emerged, the 23-year-old decided the show must go on.
She turned up at Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End without her diamond engagement ring and made a tearful appearance on stage as Celia in Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
But last night an understudy stood in for her as she reportedly spent the day pondering her future with Law.
A note at the theatre stated: “The ‘As You Like It’ management has made the decision that at this evening’s performance the role of ‘Celia’ will be played by Denise Gough.”
Law, 32, the star of films such as Alfie and The Talented Mr Ripley, has admitted bedding his nanny Daisy Wright three months after he proposed to Miller.
In a newspaper interview, the 26-year-old nanny told how Law seduced her in New Orleans while she was looking after his children.
In a statement released on Sunday, Law said he was “deeply ashamed and upset that I’ve hurt Sienna and the people most close to us”.
He added: “I want to publicly apologise to Sienna and our respective families for the pain that I have caused. There is no defence for my actions, which I sincerely regret, and I ask that you respect our privacy at this very difficult time.”
Miller’s performance on Monday night was faultless – but when the audience gave her a warm ovation at the curtain call the emotion finally got the better of her. Her face crumpled and she wiped away tears as she walked into the wings.
Miller had arrived at the theatre looking grim faced and escorted by two minders, refusing to comment on whether she and Law were still together.
Shortly after the performance ended a young woman, thought to be the actress, was bundled into the back of a waiting Jaguar with a blanket covering her head.
The couple met on the set of Alfie in 2003 and became engaged on Christmas Day last year. There have been rumours their relationship was in trouble and earlier this year the actress was pictured without her engagement ring, although she later claimed it had been in for repair.
