Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ben Foster from Stoke.

The Potters have received an initial £1m from the Barclays Premiership club which could rise to £3m depending on the fulfilment of various clauses.

Stoke’s director of football John Rudge said: “This is a great move for Ben and a great opportunity for him to join one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“It’s an incredible deal which adds further stability to the club and we couldn’t stand in his way once we heard Manchester United wanted to sign him.”

Foster, 22, did not make a first-team appearance for City but made a big impression at youth and reserve level.

Rudge added: “A lot of credit must go to our former scout Colin Dobson, who was instrumental in bringing Ben to the club in the first place.

“Credit must also go to Ronnie Sinclair, Ed de Goey and Steve Simonsen for the part they have played in making him the player he is today.

“Ben has the potential to do well at Manchester United and we wish him the very best of luck.”
