Dinos to return in the autumn
Gold Cup winner of 2003 Mr Dinos is to be given a midsummer break by trainer Paul Cole before being brought back for an autumn campaign on softer ground.
The six-year-old has failed to win since running out an easy six-length winner of the Ascot showpiece two years ago and has been out of the frame on his two starts this term.
The first of those runs came when he finished eighth in this year’s renewal of the stayers’ race on his seasonal debut and he was last seen finishing fifth in the Esher Stakes at Sandown.
“Mr Dinos wasn’t coping with the firm ground – he hasn’t gone wrong or anything – so we have decided to miss the summer and concentrate on the autumn,” said Cole.
“I stress that he is fine and has come out of both races well, but we feel that he won’t really do himself justice on this very firm ground so we are going to wait for softer ground later in the year.”
