Two men and young girl die in separate drownings

Two men and a 12-year-old girl drowned in three separate incidents last night in Dublin, Donegal and Wicklow.

The girl was part of a youth group visiting the Upper Lake near Glendalough village in Co Wicklow when she got into difficulties at around 4pm, sparking an intensive search.

Her body was recovered at around 9pm and taken to Loughlinstown Hospital, where a post mortem will be carried out today.

A 62-year-old fisherman also died after he got into difficulties in the sea at Owey Island in Co Donegal just after 8pm, while a 22-year-old man also drowned while swimming in the sea off Portrane in Dublin.

His body was recovered from the water just after midnight.
