Study criticises delays in cases before Children’s Court

A study commissioned by the Department of Justice has reportedly criticised delays of up to two years in dealing with cases before the Children's Court.

Reports this morning said the study found these delays adversely affected the possibility of changing the behaviour of young offenders.

It also reportedly found that delays were likely to lead to harsher punishments for repeat offenders, whose full history of charges is taken into account in a single sitting.
