Ryanair starts court battle over Dublin terminal project

19/07/2005 - 12:46:39
Ryanair has initiated High Court proceedings against the Government in a bid to overturn what the airline calls "the unlawful decision to allow a second terminal be built by the Dublin Airport Authority without any public competition or tender".

Ryanair is challenging this decision on competition and public procurement grounds under Article 82 and Article 86 of the European Treaty.

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary, said: "Bertie Ahern’s Government is breaking EU competition rules by awarding the second terminal to the Dublin Airport monopoly. Our legal advisors are confident that this unlawful decision can be challenged and overturned in the Irish courts.

"Ryanair is taking this case because this is the only way we can end the queues, the waste, the inefficiency and the incompetence of the Dublin Airport Monopoly."
