Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern has condemned today's bomb attack in Turkey which killed a young Irish student.

Dermot Ahern said: “I am deeply shocked by this cruel and senseless act. Four people have lost their lives, including a young Irish woman.

“I offer my deepest sympathies to her family and to the families of the other victims of this tragedy, as well as to those who were injured.

“There can be no justification whatsoever for this atrocity. I condemn in the strongest terms those who planned this attack. I call on the Turkish authorities to pursue those responsible with the utmost vigour and to bring them to justice.”

He said he had instructed the Irish Ambassador to request the Turkish authorities review security arrangements in tourist resorts.

Following the blast, the Department of Foreign Affairs is reviewing its travel advice for Turkey. The Department has advised all Irish citizens to exercise caution and to be particularly vigilant at all times.
