Hammers release Hutchison
West Ham have released former Scotland midfielder Don Hutchison.
The 34-year-old, whose second spell at the club has been ruined by injury, is out of contract.
Hutchison rejoined the Hammers from Sunderland for £5m four years ago but featured little over the past two seasons due to knee problems.
He recovered fitness in the second half of last season but could not force his way into the first-team reckoning as West Ham secured promotion to the Premiership via the play-offs.
Manager Alan Pardew told the club’s official website www.whufc.com: “I can confirm that Don Hutchison has left the club.
“He’s a great lad, but his contract has expired and I thought that it was best for all concerned to let him move on. I certainly wish Don well for the future.”
Hutchison, who first played at Upton Park from 1994-96, began his career at Hartlepool and has also had spells with Liverpool, Sheffield United and Everton.
Pardew has also informed former Manchester City midfielder Steve Lomas that he can leave the club.
He said: “I’ve told Steve Lomas that he is no longer part of my long-term plans and that he is free to leave if the right club comes in for him.”
Northern Ireland international Lomas, 31, joined West Ham in 1997.
