Derry's Muldoon cleared for qualifier

14/07/2005 - 21:55:51
2004 All-star Enda Muldoon will start for Derry in Sunday's All-Ireland SFC third round qualifier against Limerick.

The Ballinderry attacker has been suffering from hamstring trouble recently but has declared himself fit for the Oak Leafers' second championship meeting with the Munster men in two years.

Manager Mickey Moran has made two changes and one positional switch from Derry's second round win over Down.

Due to an ankle ligament injury, Fergal Doherty misses out in midfield, and Johnny McBride loops back to man the centre field role.

Claudy's Gavin Donaghy, who bagged 1-8 in this year's NFL, takes McBride's wing-forward berth, while Francis McEldowney replaces Paul Wilson at wing-back.

Paddy Bradley, who struck 1-4 against Down, captains the side again from full-forward.

Derry boss Moran is expecting a tough challenge from Sunday's opponents, and he conceded: “Limerick showed in their championship clashes with Kerry in recent years they are not that far of being a top side, and being a very experienced side, they will certainly be using this to their advantage.

"It means we will have to turn in a good team performance on Sunday if we are to prevail, but I believe my side are up for this game."

DERRY (SFC v Limerick): B Gillis; K McGuckin, K McCloy, M Kelly; F McEldowney, SM Lockhart, P McFlynn; J McBride, Patsy Bradley; P Murphy, E Bradley, G Donaghy; M Lynch, Paddy Bradley (capt), E Muldoon.
