Government holds preliminary talks with social partners
14/07/2005 - 16:03:58The Minister for Finance said today that the Government was committed to working with the social partners to agree a successor to Sustaining Progress.
Brian Cowen, along with the Taoiseach and Tánaiste, held preliminary talks at Dublin Castle this afternoon with unions and employers.
He says expanding opportunity would be an important part of any future national agreement: “The social partnership process is a very good way of identifying our priorities, of maintaining a strategic position going forward that respects the economic fundamentals but that's also prepared to see in what way, based on the new situation we're now in, we can further ensure that more and more people have an opportunity to participate in this society.”
