Biographer: A black jury would have jailed Jackson

14/07/2005 - 15:11:32
Michael Jackson's biographer has applauded attorney Thomas Mesereau for not bowing to pressure and calling for more black faces on the jury for his client's child molestation trial because African-Americans would have jailed him.

Stacy Brown, who has co-written expose Michael Jackson: The Man Behind The Mask, feels sure that civil rights activists like Al Sharpton and Rev Jesse Jackson did the singer a disservice when they voiced their disgust at the jury selection, which didn't include a single African-American.

The journalist is convinced that so many African-Americans dislike Jackson for the way he has snubbed his own kind - and only turned to them when he needed their support - more black faces on the jury would have brought about a very different outcome, and the pop star would not be a free man.

Brown says: "The defence team knew what they were doing. I think if that trial had been moved so that there were more black people on the jury, Michael Jackson would be in prison right now.”
