All EU will fall silent 'in solidarity' with bomb victims

13/07/2005 - 18:05:43
The whole of the European Union will hold two minutes' silence at noon tomorrow in response to last week’s terrorist atrocities in London, EU ministers announced tonight.

In a joint declaration after an emergency meeting of interior ministers in Brussels, ministers said they stood “in solidarity” as they did after the Madrid bombings in March last year.

The two minutes’ silence will be staged at exactly noon London time.

“The council of the European Union condemns the terrorist attacks on London,” said the statement.

“It sends its profound condolences to the victims and their families, in honour of whom two minutes of silence will be held across the European Union on Thursday July 14 at 12pm.

“It stands united in solidarity as it did after the attacks on Madrid last year, and is absolutely determined that the terrorists will not succeed.”
