Task force to discuss level of terror threat to Ireland
13/07/2005 - 08:14:32A government task force on emergency planning is due to meet today to review Ireland's preparedness for an attack such as last week's in London.
The group will examine the level of threat faced by Ireland from Islamic extremists and the security measures that are in place to prevent possible attacks.
Gardaí are monitoring a number of people living in Ireland who sympathise with Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network.
However, Defence Minister Willie O'Dea has insisted that Ireland has excellent intelligence and security measures in place and says he has no reason to believe the country is a target for Islamic militants.
Ireland, could, however, be used as a base for launching attacks in Britain due to the ease of movement between the two countries.
