EU's Barroso condemns London attacks
12/07/2005 - 13:30:04European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso today joined Christian, Islamic and Jewish leaders in condemning last week’s bombings in London and appealing for religious tolerance in Europe.
“All participants strongly condemned the terrorist attacks against innocent people in London,” Barroso read from a statement agreed with the religious leaders in Brussels. “No reason, particularly not a religious one, can justify such acts against humanity.”
He expressed concern about the risk of a backlash against Europe’s Muslims.
“What happened is not because of religion,” Barroso said. “We want the Islamic community to feel that we are on their side.”
