Bomb alert shuts Brussels rail station
12/07/2005 - 18:18:40Police briefly ordered the evacuation of Brussels’ main international railway station today because of a suspect package, but quickly gave the all clear.
Traffic at the Midi station, which links the Belgian capital to London and Paris, was briefly halted while an army bomb disposal team checked the package.
Officials at the SNCB/NMBS train company said the station was evacuated for about 10 minutes.
The Belgian government has increased security checks on public transport following last week’s bomb attacks in London.
