Study finds flaws in Irish medical training system
12/07/2005 - 07:53:31A study by a ministerial working group has reportedly found major flaws in the way doctors are trained in Ireland.
Reports this morning said the so-called Fottrell Group had found that the medical education system was in "serious difficulty" and was overly reliant on fees from non-EU students.
The group has reportedly recommended a doubling in the number of college places for Irish and other EU students and a phased reduction in training places for non-EU students.
This morning's reports said it had also called for increased State funding for all future entrants to medicine.
